Mount Hood national forest reaches from the Colombia River along the cascade to Mount Jefferson and from the foothills east Portland to the central Oregon plateau. The forest entrance may be either at SR26 to SR212and 224. The river hood entrance may be at SR 35S.
Majestic mountain hood ranges rises from 11239feet in splendid isolation, dominating the horizon for miles around. Many living glaciers extend near e timberline to all sides. The peak is the highlight of the Mount Hood national forest and the highest point in the state. Alpine midows, waterfalls, glaciers, hot springs, and more than 4000miles of spring and 160 lakes grace the forest.
The Colombia river gorge was formed by an ancient river of lava that also created near by 620foot Multnomah Falls.
Spectacular scenic drives of the Mount Hood loop highway and the Clackamas river highway forested acreage consist of primarily of conifers-cedar fir, hemlock, pine and spruce. Barger creek, bull of the woods, Colombia, Mount Hood salmon huckleberry and part of the Mount Jefferson wilderness are specially preserved wilderness areas comprising 51,000 acres within the forest.
There are picnics areas and campgrounds and 1200 mile network of trails the timberline lodge, several downhill skiing areas include year-around skiing at timberline, cross- country skiing and snow shoeing can be pursue in other area .
